Mind Mobile Project
Artist Statement
I don’t know many people who have a music stand, a cool looking alarm clock, and an old fashioned TV in their room, much less including my other things like quills and parchment, a camera, and a huge stack of good books. I guess that is good, since I like being different. My theme for my mobile was about me, but more specifically: what you can find in my room. One of the symbols that I was proud to create was my music stand. I chose this because I play the cello and I love music. I made this out of molding clay and air-drying it to make it more stable so it can hang from my tier. I then added a piece of paper and drew lines on it to represent the music open on the stand. I really liked making this symbol because my cello is a big part of my life and I really like to share that information with others because it is not very normal and I like being different and standing out.
Another symbol that I liked making was my alarm clock. Although it does not represent a good quality of mine, or an interest, I like what it symbolizes and how it represents me. Which is, to say, time and time management, which I am not very good at, and that is why I put it on my mobile. I made it out of cardboard box lid and made a cylinder shape, painted it, and put stickers that had numbers on it. Then I painted two spice can lids and glues then on to create the bells. Then I used a pen spring and glued a wood piece to the end of that to create the spring for the alarm clock. When that all was done, an alarm clock was born.
My last symbol that I really like was my TV. I made my TV by getting a styrofoam square and covering it with a thin layer of clay, and then I covered it with contact paper that had a wood-look to it. I then took turkey lacers and bent them to make them stand up and glued them down to create the antennas of the TV. This symbolizes that I learn visually because you watch TV. I also made the TV to look old fashioned, instead of a flat screen because it represents my love of old fashioned things. I really like all of the symbols that I created, but these three were my favorite symbols.

Reflection
The purpose of this project is to understand the physics involved with this, including topics like Newton's Laws, Equilibriums, and Forces. Also we learned how to use Project Work Time (PWT) efficiently and about symbols and what they are and represent. We learned a lot of topics for this, also including how to make beautiful symbols. What I really enjoyed during this project was that we got PWT, so we could work on our stuff next to friends and complete our work but still having fun while we did. I think that the most challenging thing about this project was that when we revised our symbols, they got heavier and I had to redo some of my force diagram afterwards. If I could redo this project I would keep from being absent because I missed some things while I was gone and I missed a benchmark. I would also weigh the tier for my mobile because I forgot to when I was at school and then it was hard to complete my force diagram at home.
